Privacy Policy
Last updated July 2026
Your privacy matters. This policy explains what Hortly collects, where it is stored and how it is used. Last updated July 2026.
1. What we collect. When you create an account we store your name and email address. As you use Hortly we also store your learning progress, streak, seeds, leaves and rewards, your chosen preferences and profile picture, your garden and the items in it, which subscription you hold, and any photos or notes you choose to add.
2. Where your data is stored. Your data is saved on your device and, when you are signed in, backed up to our secure cloud database so you can pick up where you left off on any device. This backup is provided by Supabase, a third-party hosting provider acting on our behalf, and is protected by access controls so that only your own account can read or write your data. Information sent between your device and the server is encrypted in transit.
3. Your email address. We use your email only to sign you in, let you reset your password, and send essential account messages such as confirming your address. We do not send marketing emails without your consent.
4. Location and weather tips. Location is off by default and Hortly works fully without it. If you turn on weather tips, the app asks your device for your location while you are using it, rounds it to roughly the nearest ten kilometres, and sends that approximate area to our server so it can look up a local forecast. We use the forecast to tell you things like whether frost is due. Your location is not stored, is not linked to your account, and is never used to track you. You can turn weather tips off at any time in Settings, or refuse the permission when your device asks.
5. Others who process data for us. We use a small number of providers to run the app: Supabase hosts our database and sign-in, and a weather provider supplies forecasts for the approximate area described above. Where you buy a subscription, the payment is handled by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies, and we receive only confirmation of what you hold, never your card details.
6. No selling of data. We do not sell, rent or share your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
7. Children. Hortly is designed to be suitable for all ages. We recommend a parent or guardian sets it up and manages the account for younger children.
8. Keeping and deleting your data. We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can edit your name and preferences at any time in Settings. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from our servers using Settings, then Delete account. Signing out clears the copy held on that device; the cloud copy remains so you can sign back in, unless you delete your account.
9. Your rights. You can ask to access, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, and withdraw consent at any time. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
10. Contact. For any privacy question or request, contact us at sprig@hortly.co.uk.
